How to Download Pinterest Videos on a PC or Mac
Last updated:
To download a Pinterest video on a PC or Mac, you copy the address of the pin and paste it into a Pinterest video downloader. The Pinterest website itself offers a download option for pictures only.
The whole process runs in your browser. This guide gives the steps, then shows where Chrome and Safari save the file and how to change that folder.
Is There a Download Button on the Pinterest Website?
Not for video. On the web, the three-dot menu next to a pin has an option named Download image. Pinterest's Help Center describes it as a way to save an image, and it does not cover video.
The red Save button is not a download either. It adds the pin to one of your boards.
Download a Pinterest Video on a PC or Mac: Steps
- Open pinterest.com in your browser and select the video pin, so it opens on its own page.
- Copy the address from the address bar. It contains /pin/ followed by a number.
- Open the Pinterest video downloader in a new tab and paste the address.
- Select Get video. The pin appears with its cover image, resolution and length.
- Select Download HD video. The browser saves the MP4 file.
You can also use the share icon next to the pin and copy the link from there. A pin.it short link works too.
Where Chrome Saves the Video
Chrome saves downloads to the Downloads folder of your user account. Google documents the default locations:
- Windows 10 and later: \Users\<username>\Downloads
- Mac: /Users/<username>/Downloads
To choose another folder, open Chrome's Settings, select Downloads, and select Change. To pick a folder for every file, turn on Ask where to save each file before downloading.
Where Safari Saves the Video on a Mac
Safari shows its downloads behind the Show Downloads button near the top right corner of the window.
To change the folder, open Safari, then Settings, then General, and use the File download location menu. Apple notes that Safari removes an item from the downloads list after one day by default. The file itself stays in the folder.
Website or Browser Extension?
A browser extension can add a download button to Pinterest pages. It has to be installed first, and it asks for permission to read the pages you visit.
A downloader website needs no installation and no permission. You open it, paste a link and close the tab when you are done. It also works the same way in Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does this work in Edge and Firefox?
Yes. The steps are the same. The file goes to the download folder set in that browser, which is the Downloads folder unless you changed it.
Will the video play on Windows and Mac?
Yes. The file is an MP4 with H.264 video, which the default players on Windows and macOS open without extra codecs.
Can I download the video in 1080p on a computer?
No. The device does not change what Pinterest stores. The article on Pinterest video resolution explains the sizes.
What if the download fails?
The list of Pinterest video errors covers image pins, private boards and videos hosted on other sites.
