How to Make a TikTok Sound Your Ringtone

Last updated:

Making a TikTok sound your ringtone takes two stages: you save the sound as an audio file, then you tell your phone to use that file as its ringtone. TikTok has no ringtone option of its own.

A TikTok MP3 downloader handles the first stage from the link of the video. The second stage is different on each phone: an iPhone needs the GarageBand app, and an Android phone needs only its Settings.

Step 1: Save the TikTok Sound as an Audio File

  1. Open the video in the TikTok app, tap Share, then tap Copy link.
  2. Open the TikTok MP3 downloader in your browser and paste the link.
  3. Select Get MP3, then select Download MP3.

The file is saved to the Downloads folder. On an iPhone that folder is inside the Files app. The tool passes on the sound in the format TikTok stores, which is MP3 for most videos and M4A for some.

Many guides tell you to save the whole video and then convert it to audio. With the sound file you skip the conversion. The tool reads public videos only.

Set a TikTok Sound as a Ringtone on iPhone

An iPhone does not let you pick an audio file as a ringtone directly. Apple's method goes through GarageBand, its free music app.

  1. Open GarageBand and create a new song with any instrument, for example the Audio Recorder.
  2. Switch to the Tracks view and tap the Loops icon.
  3. Tap Files, find the downloaded sound and drag it onto the track.
  4. Tap the arrow in the corner and choose My Songs to save the project.
  5. Press and hold the project, tap Share, then tap Ringtone.
  6. Name the ringtone and tap Export. Then choose Standard Ringtone.

The new ringtone also appears in Settings, under Sounds & Haptics, so you can change it later.

How Long Can an iPhone Ringtone Be?

An iPhone ringtone can be up to 30 seconds long. Apple states that GarageBand shortens a longer ringtone automatically when you export it.

You do not have to repeat a short sound until it fills 30 seconds, as some guides suggest. A shorter ringtone is allowed. Trim the track in GarageBand only if you want a different part of the sound.

Set a TikTok Sound as a Ringtone on Android

Android can use an audio file as a ringtone without an extra app. Google documents two ways.

With Files by Google

  1. Open Files by Google and tap Audio.
  2. Play the downloaded sound, then tap More.
  3. Tap Set as ringtone. The first time, allow Modify system settings.

With the Ringtones folder

  1. Move the audio file into the Ringtones folder of your phone.
  2. Open Settings, then Sound & vibration, then the ringtone setting.
  3. Pick the sound from the list and save.

Menu names differ between phone makers. On a Samsung phone the menu is named Sound and Vibration, and the list has an Add button. Google notes that some of its steps work only on Android 12 and later.

Use the Sound for One Contact, a Text Tone or an Alarm

  • One contact on iPhone: when you export from GarageBand, choose Assign to contact. You can also open the contact, tap Edit, then tap Ringtone.
  • Text tone on iPhone: choose Standard Text Tone when you export.
  • One contact on Android: open the contact in the Contacts app, tap More, then tap Set ringtone.
  • Alarm on Android: Google notes that alarm sounds and ringtones use different folders, so place the file in the Alarms folder.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it free to make a TikTok sound a ringtone?

Yes. The downloader is free, GarageBand is a free Apple app, and Android needs no extra app.

Why is my downloaded sound an M4A file and not an MP3?

TikTok stores some sounds as M4A. The tool passes the file on without converting it. Both are ordinary audio files.

Can I use the sound in my own video or podcast?

Not without permission. A ringtone on your own phone is personal use. Most songs on TikTok are licensed only for use inside TikTok, so publishing the sound elsewhere needs the right holder's consent.

Can I save the video as well?

Yes. The home page tool lets you download TikTok videos as MP4 files without the watermark.
