How to Copy a Facebook Video Link

Last updated:

A Facebook video link is the web address that leads to one video or reel. You copy it with Share, then Copy link in the Facebook app, or from the address bar of a browser on a computer.

This article gives the steps for both, explains the link formats Facebook produces, and shows what to do when the Share option is missing.

Copy the Link in the Facebook App

The steps are the same on iPhone and Android.

  1. Open the video or reel.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Tap Copy link. You may need to swipe across the row of options to find it.

The link is now on your clipboard. A link copied in the app is usually a short share link, not the full address of the video.

Copy the Link on a Computer

A browser gives you two ways.

  • The address bar. Click the video so that it opens on its own page, then copy the address from the address bar. This is the full link.
  • The Share button. Click Share under the video, then click Copy link.

A third way works for any post. Meta's developer documentation describes it: right-click the time the post was published and copy the link address.

The Link Formats Facebook Produces

The same video can have several addresses. All of the formats below lead to one video.

FormatExampleWhat it is
Reel linkfacebook.com/reel/1234567890123456Full link with the numeric ID of the reel
Video linkfacebook.com/PageName/videos/1234567890123456Full link under the name of a Page or profile
Watch linkfacebook.com/watch/?v=1234567890123456Full link with the ID in the v parameter
Video share linkfacebook.com/share/v/AbCdEf123/Short link that redirects to the video
Reel share linkfacebook.com/share/r/AbCdEf123/Short link that redirects to the reel
fb.watch linkfb.watch/AbCdEf123/Short link that redirects to the video

The three full links contain the ID of the video. The three short links contain a share code, and Facebook redirects them to the full address when they are opened.

Since September 2025 every video posted to Facebook is shared as a reel, so new videos mostly carry reel links. Older links in the other formats still work.

You Do Not Need to Expand a Short Link

Some guides tell you to paste a short link into a browser first and copy the long address it turns into. That step is not needed here.

The Facebook video downloader on this site accepts all six formats and follows the redirect itself. Paste the link as you copied it, then choose HD or SD.

When There Is No Share Option

Facebook's Help Centre notes that, depending on the audience of a reel or video, you may not be able to reshare it. A video shared with a limited audience, or posted in a private group, is the usual case.

On a computer you can still copy the address from the address bar. That link opens the video only for people who are allowed to see it. Everyone else gets no video, and so does a downloader. The article on Facebook download not working explains how to check the audience.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I copy the link of a Facebook reel?

Open the reel, tap Share, then tap Copy link. A reel and a video are copied the same way, and since September 2025 every Facebook video is a reel.

Does the link of a private video work for other people?

No. A link does not change who can see a video. People outside the audience the owner chose cannot open it.

Can I use the link of a profile or a Page?

No. A profile or Page link leads to many posts, not to one video. Open the video itself and copy its link.

What can I do with the copied link?

You can send it to someone, or paste it into a link-based tool to keep the video as a file. The guide on how to download Facebook reels shows the steps on a phone.
